Tuscan Window

Tuscan Window

This painting was done after one of our trips to Italy.  We went to a small village, Murlo, just west of Siena.  While walking the streets of this intriguing village, I came upon a window that was of interest to me.  The indentation of the window framed by an old exterior wall reminded me of how old buildings can loose the freshness of their new construction.  The mortar which was missing exposed the rocks which gave strength to the exterior and the cracks in the mortar which were getting ready to expose more stone caused me to pause.  Aging, no matter what the subject is, takes it's toll.  All animate and inanimate subjects will eventually reach this fate.
